D&T – Performance and cost reduction with Dynamic Haulage!

In today's Tips & Tricks, we are going to present the best tool for determining routes and sizing fleets within mining sequencing. O Dynamic Haulage is a MineSight tool scheduler Optimizer (MSSO) that presents a more precise solution for defining the route of the cuts based on the assumptions and restrictions imposed by the user. O Dynamic Haulage guarantees the best and most efficient route to the destinations, taking into account previously mined areas and economic parameters, in this way, the generated routes are in accordance with the shape of the pit, according to the advances already made. The following image shows an MSHaulage route (yellow line) on a pushback which has already been mined, therefore, it is unavailable.

The definition of cycle time is fundamental for sizing the fleet, which represents a significant part of CAPEX and OPEX. When defining the routes within MSHaulage, the user defines the best route for a given phase/pushback taking into account all the information he has at the time of generating the routes. At this stage, there is no clear knowledge about the sequencing of the cuts, only a general idea of the priority of some phases in relation to others. With this, each cut of a given phase will have the route established within MSHaulage based on the information that the user had at the time of preparing the routes.

With MSHaulage and MSSO integrated, the cycle time is calculated from the routes that were created based on the surface generated after the conceptual mining, using the ramps defined in the Conceptual Pit. However, during the mining operation, some ramps may not be available, depending on the mining progress. Dynamic Haulage brings the concept of temporary ramps used in short-term sequencing to MSSO. From the precedence between phases determined by the user within the MSSO, the program performs the sequencing and the Dynamic Haulage determines the best possible route for each cut, taking into account the available routes and the cuts previously mined. The following image shows how Dynamic Haulage works, taking into account available routes from phases already mined to be used by cuts that would previously have another path. The tool calculates the cycle time for each available route and determines the best possible route for each cut at the time of mining.

The image shows the user-defined route within MSHaulage (solid yellow line) and the alternative route (dotted lines) found by Dynamic Haulage. Note that the cuts on the right of the image are already plotted, making available the route found by Dynamic Haulage. At the time of generating the routes, the sequencing information is not yet known, causing some cuts to assume non-ideal or even non-operational routes. Dynamic defines the route to be taken after sequencing, this is the tool's great differential, so all routes will be operational.

The main objective of Dynamic Haulage is to generate plans as close as possible to reality, helping decision-making during planning. After defining Phase Precedence and Haulage Network within the MSSO, Dynamic Haulage will define the best route from the sequencing already done, and will provide the comparison between plans with and without Dynamic Haulage.

There is also the option to view the Gantt chart (image below), where it is informed when a cut starts to be plowed, the duration and when the cut is finished, a new feature for MSSO. Another important tool within Dynamic Haulage is the option to compare the results of traditional MSHaulage with Dynamic, making it possible to view the differences in results in the Cash Flow report, enabling a direct economic comparison between the two plans. In addition to the comparison in the reports, there is also integration within MS3D, providing the user with the possibility of visualizing directly in the Viewer the difference in the routes between the two planes.
